Avianna McGhee is a high school student at Columbia Secondary School in New York City. She has been involved with STEM internships at Columbia University and at the American Museum of Natural History. She is interested in science and medicine, but has always had an eye for the arts. She has been a self-taught painter for over 5 years, and decided it was finally time to put her love for art to some real use. Avianna grew up in New York, and with her home at the epicenter of the pandemic, she realized she had to do something to help. She recognizes the immediate importance of supporting our medical workers and hospitals during this time. She created Painting for Purpose to sell her art to raise money for Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens, New York, and plans to dedicate her efforts to making as large of a difference as she can.
